Rethinking self-harm and emotional regulation
A science-based approach to understanding emotional regulation and self-harm.
The huge rise in teenage anxiety and self-harm shows we need to be talking much more about emotional regulation, trauma and resilience.
The challenges young people face are not personal; they are relevant to us all. We’re biologically designed to survive in a world very different from the one we live in today.
Understanding the human nervous system and the huge impact it has on our daily lives, health and relationships is a foundation for self-awareness and resilience.
Our self-harm training draws on insights from neuroscience, psychology and lived experience to explain how the nervous system works to keep us safe and how self-harm is a coping strategy that taps into our mind-body intelligence.
We share scientific insights, conversation starters and practical tools that support emotional regulation and resilience. At the heart of our approach is recognising that we must dismantle the stigma around self-harm so that young people can go on to heal and reach their potential.

Testimonials
“I self-harmed when I was at University. I didn’t understand why. I wanted to stop, but I couldn’t. I felt alone and confused.”
No one told me that self-harm was my way of trying to cope. Nobody helped me to see what was happening in my mind and body and how it involved my nervous system. After researching the science and training as a resilience coach, I’m no longer ashamed that I self-harmed. I’ve been empowered by what I learnt and I’m on a mission to share it.
